31st March 2014

Today is the final day before hand in. Showing my tutor my almost finished product felt very relieving. There are only a couple of things that need tweaking. I just hope the printing doesn't screw up last minute(fingers crossed). I will just be finishing of my bookwork and rationale today.

30th March 2014

I have been updating my bookwork along with making the actual brochure on indesign just so I stay up to date and can refer back to things easily. I think my map came out as I wanted to show it but i would prefer the colours being more deep. I'd rather just concentrate on how I am going to finally layout my spreads because that is my main priority for now. I have been trying out different compositional layouts to see what works and what doesn't. It is much more clearer to find the mistakes when you print the actual document. Like my text is too large and I can also see where kerning and leading is needed in order for the text to flow nicely with the imagery. I still need to complete my spare spread and back cover. So far there are two different layouts I like that I have shown my family and I think I have a much clearer direction I want to head towards now.

28th March 2014

It's getting closer to the hand in date now which is sort of stressful but good in a way so I push myself to do much better. I find it easier to concentrate on one portion of the brochure at once then carry on with the other spreads. So right now I am concentrating on the cover page and what display font I should use. Instead of having a map on each destination spread, I think it would be better to use my spare page because it will be too colourful an busy. Every page has to connect whether it be that they are all colourful or have some sort of visual technique that links them up. That is why I would like to create a map that is more illustrative and playful.

25th March 2014

Over the past week I have been bring my brochure together by experimenting with the different sections of it. Such as the cover page, introduction page and the spare page. I have been resolving my issues through this experimentation process along with thumbnails and documenting it in my workbook. Working on indesign isn't so bad once you actually get the hang of it. It is a much faster and efficient way of laying out each spread. I'm still working on how to actually layout my document with the text and the type of font that would look good on the spreads. I'm quite pleased with how my illustrations are turning out because it feels very vibrant and playful which is what I wanted to show through my collages and overall brochure. After our one on one today I am aware of what I need to tweak and improve on to get a well resolved brochure. :)

Thursday 13th March 2014

I have been gathering more 'flavours' of different graphic styles that could work well with what I'm doing. My first attempt at the collages on photoshop were ok but as they said, they are based more on circles and geometric shapes.

In class we discussed how graphic images have their own 'flavour' or feeling which helped to develop more of an understanding of how i could make my collages better. This exercise helped me to develop my collages further. I have headed towards a more illustrative approach which I prefer to my last collages. I have identified what emotive qualities each destination has and the colour scheme of the locations.

Sunday 2nd March 2014

As a part of my 'qualitative' research I went to The Wellington Zoo to see the different settings and exotic animals there. I documented this destination by taking photographs and little sketches. It awesome when you can work and have fun at the same time.
